Empirical Research  -  Findings

Our contribution to public knowledge is based upon empirical research.
These activities have been financed either by public fonds or by private sponsorship.

At present, the following research findings are open to a broader public:

  • Value Added Analysis of Digital Four Colour Printing
featuring a 1:1 marketing campaign of a Power Supplier

    Contents:
This study describes and calculates the cost of business processes of a mailing / direct marketing campaign in both, conventional and digitally-personalized ways. The empirical case study shows how a power supplier firm had a customer loyalty campaign designed with a 4-page brochure for both the ways (conventionally, digitally). At some higher costs, the digitally-personalized way creates a 2.9 higher response rate compared to the conventional way. As a result we may state that 1:1 marketing basing upon digital printing provides a better cpi-score (cost-per-interest) than conventional non-personalized mailings.

  • Commercial and technical Evaluation of the Software Technologies dot.net vs. Java

    Contents:
Many user companies may raise the question whether to engage in dot.net or Java when decisions on application engineering are due. This is a strategic issue with long-term impacts. Therefore, this study does not only aim at software-technical questions but also wants to give a strategic answer to the question. The study includes a multi-dimensional scoring analysis. In order to judge what is relevant to decision makers expert interviews were made within the community of software engineers.
As a result, we may state preferences for one of the software technologies, however each individual reader of this study could include his personal set of preferences and show up with his individual optimum decision.

  • Cost Management in IT - Printing & Copying

    Contents:
This ambitious study was carried out within representative industrial, trading, and service firms. First of all, opinions and practices of cost management regarding printing and copying were asked for. Second, and of larger importance, there were deep analyses of printer and copier equipment, including cost analyses. As a result, we may now present distributions and structures of cost per page, per employee, per device, and structures such as fixed versus variable costs, workplace vs. departmental devices, as well as owned vs. contracted devices.
Important conclusions may be drawn with regard to parameters of service contracts and with regard to misleading features of so-called “pay-per-page” billing models.
